Hey everyone,

Here's an off-site discussion that might be of interest to some of you. The topic is "Are 12-string electric guitars obsolete" now that there are pitch shifters and effects that emulate them?

If you want to defend your beloved 12-string, you might what to "chime" in. Here's the link:

All the musical instruments are obsolete since we've got the computers. Our real life is obsolete since we've got the computers.

I created a real stink on a folk music newsgroup back in the mid-1990s suggesting that the computer is the folk instrument of the 21st century. Think about it. Folk music is all about untrained people adapting what they have at their disposition to express musical impulses. Ancient people used sticks, gourds, and cat gut to make early stringed instruments. They used sticks hollowed out by termites to make digeridoos. They used hollow logs and sticks to make drums. It's about using what's available to make music. At the present time, some kid with FruityLoops and a PC is just as much a folk musician as Pete Seeger.

No, never. Fruityloops can not replace talent. That's just an instrument, but without talent it's useless.
